They met on Bumble where is it on the female to send the first message. So Chelsea did! But it is so hard to come up with an intriguing first message or question to be able to start a great conversation. So she started with "What is your favorite late-night snack?" where John responded with leftovers or pizza. From there they got on the topic of charcuterie boards and he had her heart! It took about a week before they met in person and it almost didn't happen because Chelsea had such a bad day at work but was preparing to leave for the Philippines for 2 months and wanted to meet him before she left and boy is she glad she did! Once we started talking, it was so natural and comfortable that they closed down the brewery and then spent another 3 hours talking outside. They spent the next 4 days in a row seeing each other in some way shape or form and Chelsea was going to be leaving in 2 days when John asked if she would be his girlfriend. She spent the next hour or so thinking about a reason to say no and couldn't find one so she said yes (for the first time). John took Chelsea to the airport and spent the first month or so in 2 different countries. Then the pandemic happened....
Once the pandemic happened, they couldn't go out and have standard dates the way 'normal' couples got to, but they made it work. John would come over after Chelsea was done working (or the other way around) and they would watch movies and TV shows. They played Animal Crossing, Backgammon, and other games. They learned a lot about each other very quickly and their relationship grew and grew! A few months into the pandemic, Chelsea's company said that her department could work anywhere in the US and she asked John how he felt about moving in together and moving out of state. He said that he liked both of those ideas so they began looking for someplace to move. Eventually, they found a place in Bozeman, Montana and moved there in October 2020.
They headed off to their standard Friday date night at their local cider house, Lockhorn, Chelsea thinking nothing of it. Little did she know that later that night John would propose. Once they got home, they ate dinner and watched TV as you do. After a while, Chelsea mentioned that it would be fun to build D&D character sheets of ourselves, like who they are as humans. So they did, John showed Chelsea his and he had a super high bonus to Deception. Chelsea told him that was too high and it needed to be changed. John said, "Oh yeah?! Have you looked at the Hogwarts castle tonight?" So Chelsea looked covered and saw something but wasn't sure what it was. John got up and grabbed the ring that was in the Prefects' Bathroom and asked "Will you marry me?" Come to find out later, John had put the ring in the castle before we left for Lockhorn!
John and Chelsea got legally married on October 26, 2022. They got married at a park near their home in Montana and had a friend of theirs officiate. Their parents were able to make the trip to Montana to witness their union. On their one-year anniversary (October 26, 2023) they will be celebrating their matrimony with their friends and family in Redondo Beach, CA.
