We met in 2018 on a first responder wilderness course in Seward. Libby had just moved from England on a whim to be a raft guide, and John was pursuing his career with the Forrest Service. John used Nanook as a hook as we all know how much Libby loves dogs! We spent two weeks doing intense medical scenarios all around Seward. After we passed our exam, we went on to our summer roles. Little did we know that we would be brought back together in Cooper Landing as it was the Forest Service Techs that led the raft guides down the Russian River to share their knowledge of Alaska wildlife and fauna. Libby recognized his handsome face immediately....Nanook's that is. We continued to meet up a few times over the summer for beer and burgers where Libby would vent her fears of leading people as a raft guide down a scary river, and John would make fun of her, because to him, the Kenai was NOT real rafting. We decided to take a camping trip to Denali when the season ended. Libby was convinced that John was going to murder her after indulging in some medicinal greenery and even went to the lengths of going back to our tent with a hatchet and bear spray tucked safely under her pillow. She obviously survived, and one can only assume that was the beginning and of her love story. After our trip, we parted ways with Libby heading back to Minnesota for awhile and John traveling. We stayed in touch and in 2019 took a trip to Colorado for a week. We spent Libby's birthday getting our teeth cleaned by wolves and I think we both realized that we are kindred spirits. We moved to Alaska in April 2020 during the pandemic and the rest is history! We now have a beautiful (albeit very chaotic) family of 5 fur babies with Nanook begrudgingly being the best big brother around. We are excited to share our special day with you!
