I had just graduated college and accepted a job position in Denver. It was a few weeks before I was packing up my life and moving to a place where I didn’t know anyone. Ready to get back into the dating world, I took a leap of faith and made an online dating profile. Not expecting much to come of it, I had a message in my inbox from Josiah. For whatever reason, his email and profile really stood out to me and I wrote him back right away. After a few email exchanges, we decided to chat on the phone and before we knew it, we’d been talking for a few hours. It was Josiah’s love for God, his family, and his ambition and drive, that really intrigued me. Our connection was undeniable and we enjoyed getting to know each other on the phone and via Skype for the next few weeks while I was waiting for my moving date. Time could not go by fast enough! Fast forward to our first date and first time meeting in person on 6/22/12. We enjoyed a glass of wine at Cru Wine Bar and sushi at John Holly’s. At dinner, we decided to order a roll called the “heart attack.” It was a spicy tuna roll with fresh jalapeño and a special sauce on top, seems harmless right? We just thought it was a fancy name for a spicy tuna roll. Well, it ended up being one of the spiciest things we’d ever had! We could not stop laughing about how spicy it was. I could barely finish two pieces, but Josiah, playing it cool, finished most of the roll like a champ. The heartburn that followed was not fun, but it made for an unforgettable first date. Despite the sushi hangover, it was after that first date, I knew I had found the man I’d been praying for.
I was in the beginning years of building my business and looking to start dating again. My buddies were giving me a hard time about not trying online dating so I decided I would try it out. Shortly before my subscription expired, I came across Lauren’s profile. Not being the best message writer for online dating I resorted to what I know best, writing a formal introduction letter that was very businesslike or at least that is what Lauren thought. After a few messages, we exchanged phone numbers as Lauren’s trial was ending as well. Our first conversation lasted for several hours as she was so easy to talk to and there was a clear connection. She shared with me that she was moving from Florida to start a new job and that it would be a few weeks before she arrived. It was clear from the beginning in my mind that I found the one. One of the things I noticed about Lauren was that she had a beautiful heart that was pure. When Lauren arrived in Denver we had our first date which included wine and sushi. When we ordered sushi, we decided to try the “Heart Attack” roll. We both agreed that it was very spicy but wanting to make a first impression as a guy who can handle spicy I ate most of the roll. The next day was a little rough!! What I did know after our first date is I found someone that I wanted to be with and I did not want her to get away. Shortly after our first date I asked Lauren to be exclusive as I knew I had found the one I want to be with.
Josiah suprised Lauren with a romantic proposal at the top of Flagstaff Mountain in Boulder, Colorado. He asked her to marry him on the outside terrace of the Flagstaff House overlooking the beautiful city. Lets just say, she was completely blindsided and he got her real good! A five-course dinner and bottle of Bordeaux followed. It was an absolutely perfect evening, one they will never forget!
