We spent our first date at State Restaurant downtown. We spent the night getting to know each other over drinks and chips & guac, and both agree that it was the most seamlessly perfect first date we could've hoped for. Unfortunately, Jill was leaving for Spain for an uncertain amount of time 6 weeks after this date. We agreed this relationship couldn't get serious (oops) and decided to make the most of the time we had together. Three months into Jill's stint abroad and she knew she had to see the relationship through. That's when we both knew this relationship was nothing less than serious!
Anyone that knows Jill knows she's an avid traveler. So even after a two-week backpacking trip across Europe to celebrate Grant's dental school graduation, the travel bug wasn't satisfied! Grant planned to take Jill to Banff National Park in Canada for her 25th birthday. We woke up way too early, and drove to the infamous turquoise lakes, Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Parking was full and we had fully committed to hiking the nine miles up to the lake until we saw some bear warnings that changed our minds. We ended up hitchhiking our way up to Moraine Lake with some very friendly Canadians instead. Jill was out on the rocks taking in the beauty, while behind her Grant was getting situated on one knee. Jill turned around, Grant nervously had the ring box upside down, and he asked her to spend forever together. The rest is history!
