Brian was teaching math and coaching baseball at Canal Winchester High School, which is my alma mater. A neighbor of mine, who is a math teacher with him, invited me to go watch one of his baseball games. It took her a couple of attempts and she finally got me to go one Friday night! She introduced us after the game and we exchanged phone numbers!
Two days later, Brian texted me and we planned a date for the next weekend. We met in the Short North (downtown Columbus) for drinks and immediately bonded over teaching, sports, our love for good queso, and people watching! We lost track of time and accidentally let both of our parking meters expire! We both raced back to our cars and neither of us had a parking ticket...yay!
We planned a day, Saturday, October 17th, for our families to get-together. So, we headed there and little did Jill know that I was going to ask to marry her in less than a few hours. I had picked out the perfect ring...from a few suggestions she had. I had the perfect place picked out as well. We arrived at my parents and to get her to leave again, I told her we needed to bring my dad his water jug. Little did Jill know he wasn't even working at the orchard that day. We headed into the orchard all dressed up for a day of fun with our families; which was a struggle since Jill didn't want to get her nice outfit dirty. We walked down a row of apple trees, as my sister was hiding in full camouflage to get a video. I got down on one knee and the rest was history. The sun came out and we celebrated the great future we will have together all day.
