Not long after I gave a speech on "The 7 Deadly Sins of American Democracy" at the inaugural Unrig the System Summit in New Orleans in 2018, C-SPAN aired it on national TV. Soon thereafter, I found myself tagged in a few random Instagram posts. Jessica saw one of those posts and followed my profile. I was instantly intrigued by hers and, after doing my due diligence, hopped in the proverbial "DMs." After her affirming response, we exchanged digits, setup our first FaceTime date, and I guess you can say the rest is history. We quickly found ourselves spontaneously FaceTiming each other at every break in the day, as if we'd known each other all of our lives. We flowed, "just like water," to borrow from Lauryn Hill. It became increasingly clear to me that she was a Godsend. Two-months after that first FaceTime date, I flew to meet her in her previous home of Tyler, Texas for our first physical date, and we've been inseparable ever since. Yes, as the poet Yo Gotti famously put it, "it goes down in the DM..." lol
