Where to start with restaurant recommendations? Houston is the most diverse city in the United States and has incredible food (one of the many reasons we love living here)! We recommend a google search if you're craving a specific cuisine, as Houston has everything. Some of our Downtown/Downtown-adjacent recommendations: Rosalie Italian Soul, Xochi, The Grove, Cultivated F&B, Irma's, Bravery Chef Hall, Main Kitchen & 806 Lounge, Finn Hall, Understory, Hearsay, GJ Tavern, Common Bond, Ninfa's, Nancy's Hustle, Kata Robata, Coltivare, Ume, Savoir. Bar recommendations: Julep (winner of the national James Beard 2022 Outstanding Bar Program), Better Luck Tomorrow, Axelrad Beer Garden, Miss Carousel, Wooster's Garden, Lawless, Permission Whiskey (bar featured in our engagement photos!). Coffee recommendations: A 2nd Cup, Boomtown, Antidote, Active Passion.
A 12-acre urban park in the heart of Downtown Houston. They sometimes show outdoor movies, there is an ice rink, and oftentimes outdoor art installations.
There are incredible museums in Houston, in fact, there's an entire area of town that is referred to as the "Museum District". A few of our recommendations: The Museum of Fine Arts, The Museum of Natural Science and The Houston Zoo - rhinos, and cheetahs, and meerkats, oh my!
Located right in the heart of the Museum District, Hermann Park is popular for its pedal boats and miniature railway, and has an outdoor theater (Miller Outdoor). McGovern Centennial Gardens is a popular wedding spot and also great for pictures!
This is a bit of a trek from Downtown Houston, but certainly a must-see Houston attraction. Around Christmas they set up "Galaxy Lights" and this was one of our first holiday activities we did together as a couple. As an aside - if you aren't watching For All Mankind on Apple+, we highly recommend - it's all about NASA and the Space Program!
There is art everywhere you look in Houston! If you're on the hunt for a cool backdrop, check out the over 700 murals around town. We all love a good IG backdrop!
