~ Bride ~ My good friend Ashley invited me to attend our Sorority party. I never thought in a million years that this type of encounter would lead to anything serious, but it did. Ato was eyeing me throughout the night and he waited for the right time to approach me. He introduced himself to me in a very polite and respectful manner. After talking for about 30 minutes, we exchanged numbers with the promise that we would catch up later. He called me two days later, and after getting acquainted with each other we went on our first date. ~ Groom ~ It all started because I decided to go to a party one Sunday evening. I reached out to a few fellas but none of them were interested but my line brother D. Lucas, we agreed to meet up at the party, so I proceeded to the party. The party was very nice, a plethora of beautiful, educated, black women and then there was the one! She wore the hell out of this green dress, and I made it a priority to introduce myself! In retrospect, I honestly was looking like a scrub that night (in my opinion), but my CONFIDENCE was on Prince! In the middle of the club, believe it or not, Jessica & I had a GREAT conversation! I waited two days after we exchanged numbers to call her, she answered, and since then we have been on a private roller coaster.
It was Valentine’s day and Ato surprised me at my job with flowers and a gift. I was happy and shocked to see him but before he left, he told me, “Just to let you know, I’m not proposing to you tonight”. I laughed and replied, “OK”. I was very calm about it, not concerned at all. I knew we had been discussing marriage for the past six months. I will admit that I was in my feelings when he did not propose over the Christmas Holiday. So, I just figured he was letting me know ahead of time so I would not get my hopes up. Later that evening, we enjoyed a nice dinner and a movie together. Afterward, we went to a coffee shop for drinks, then later he took me to the overpass bridge on Montrose. We discussed our future while sitting on the bench overlooking the traffic on 59. As he was explaining his plans for the future, he turns around and I see this box in his hand and immediately begin to cry. He proceeds to ask the question, Will you marry me? “YES, YES, I said. He placed the ring on my finger and we shared a kiss. The ring was beautiful! The moment was beautiful!
