We recommend reserving a full day to do this if you have time. So many beautiful stops - you have to start early! We recommend downloading Gypsy guide app for the journey. The guide gives expert advice on where to stop and what to look for, plus a lot of history on Maui. Also - stop at Braddah Hutts BBQ grill on the road - this no frills food truck has some of the best food we’ve had in Maui!! The Hāna Highway (HI-360) has 620 curves and 59 bridges. The road leads you through flourishing rainforests, flowing waterfalls, plunging pools and dramatic seascapes. Please keep in mind that you'll encounter challenging turns and narrow bridges along the way, so it's important to exercise caution and take your time.
Definitely a must do! It was so nice, we drove up twice - once to bike down (so fun!) - and then again in the evening to catch the most incredible sunset. The park is named after a massive inactive volcano that stands at an elevation of 10,023 feet. The volcano is considered to be one of the most sacred places in Hawaiian culture, and it is home to many unique plants and animals that are found nowhere else in the world.
This is a beautiful hike, if you’re into that kind of thing. It is 5.2 miles round trip with ~1600 feet of climbing. Gorgeous views of mountains, gorges, and forest. Let us (mostly Jess) know if you are doing this hike or any others because it would be fun to join!
Walk around Lahaina Harbor. You can check out local shops, and get some Dole Whip!
Great restaurant to try if you are staying in Wailea. Must order the Mai Tai!!
First opened in 1989, when Paia was a sleepy fishing town known to surfers, windsurfers, local fisherman and sugar mill workers. Folks took their time, and everyone gathered at the Fishmarket’s family style seating to talk story over a good meal. Great spot for some fish and beer! We also enjoyed walking around Paia and checking out some of the cool shops!
