How We Met

Tim and Jess met at Base10 Fitness, in Columbia. Outside of workouts and after hour gym events, they didn't speak to each other very much. Over time, they found out that they had similar music interests. In September of 2019, Tim had tickets to see Angels & Airwaves in Charlotte and needed someone to go with him. He knew Jess was always down to go to a show, so he asked her to go and she said yes. Deciding it would be better to avoid Charlotte traffic after work, Tim suggested going to the Whig to have some of Westbrook's Mexican Cake Stout and a bite to eat (not knowing that the Whig was Jess's favorite bar). Jess and Tim had a great time on the way up to Charlotte and at the show, even seeing Dale Jr. in the crowd. A friendship started...

How it Started

In February of 2020, Tim and Jess went with mutual friends Ross and Jessa Wigington to see Buckcherry at the Senate. Then Covid hit, their gym was not having classes in person, and members all found ways to hang out together. Tim would hang out with Ross and Jess would hang out with Jessa. Then it was all 4 of them together playing card games or watching TV. Eventually, Tim and Jess started hanging out on their own, with their dogs, and the rest is history...

How He Proposed

On Saturday, August 26th they went for an early dinner at The Whig, RIP. (Side note: Jess was starving and couldn't wait to eat a soft pretzel, Whig Burger and fries). On the way to the bar, Tim was playing Angels & Airwaves on the radio, beginning to set the mood for what was about to happen. They were the first ones inside and Jess went to sit down in a booth. Tim went straight to the bar, where Jessica assumed he was getting her a pretzel and a whiskey. He came back to the booth with a bottle of Westbrook's Mexican Cake, the first beer they had shared at the Whig, and two glasses. "Look what they have!" he said. "Awww, yay," she replied. (Jess was still hungry and just wanted a pretzel.) Tim poured them both a glass and they clinked glasses. Jess was still focused on the pretzel that she thought was about to come out. Tim grabbed both of Jessica's hands and proceeded to say sweet and wonderful things about how much he loved her and how excited he was that they were going to spend their lives together. And Jess was just nodding her head and saying, "yeah" (only thinking of food and not realizing what was happening.) Tim could see she was not getting the hint so he got out of the booth, got down on one knee and proposed. Tears and laughter ensued. She said, "yes!" and eventually got her soft pretzel, Whig Burger and fries.
