How We Met

The first thing I ever said to Jess was "no offense, but I hate you." Obviously nobody could resist this so we got engaged on the spot...several months later. At that moment, she was just confused so she just chuckled and said, "that's fair" and continued to get her food out of the fridge of the Truett student lounge. We would see each other every once in a while and chat or exchange hellos every once in a while, but for the most part I knew her as the girl who got the job for which I had applied. I was the boy who told jokes. In June of 2019, I took a job at her church in the nursery (a job I almost turned down). On my first day, I was asked to help at the church's summer Bible club. I had no idea what I was doing so I just hung out by the bounce house with Jess and some other Truett students. We cracked jokes, talked about school, and struck up a friendship. (Bounce houses truly are a force stronger than hate.) We would go to lunch after church, chat at Truett, have long conversations over food and drinks, and watch bad movies and great tv shows together. I realized that I liked being her friend so much that I needed to ask her out on a date. She said she needed to pray about it for a month so I thought that it was game over. But, fortunately for me, she actually was going to pray about it. So we continued to see each other and talk all the time. On September 28th, after weeks of praying and patience, we decided to make it official!

Engagement Story

Adam and I had plans to have dinner with friends but on our way they called saying they were running late and could we arrive about 30 minutes later. Adam immediately suggested we kill that time at the park where we officially became boyfriend and girlfriend. Despite my common sense that it would be hot and we could just hang at his apartment, he insisted. When we got to the park, we passed a set up of a balloons, which I assumed to be for a birthday party. We got out and approached the area and Adam started talking about how much he loved me and I realized THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING. When he asked me to marry him I immediately said yes, but didn’t know if I should take the ring or hug him so I asked and he replied “do whatever you want” and I gave him the tightest hug possible. Once I unleashed my grip, I got a look at the ring, which Adam had chosen from some vague ideas I had and it is perfect and beautiful! He then alerted me to the fact that our friends Connie and Everett had been filming and taking pictures. We got some more pictures and then got to spend some time soaking in the magic. After we left the park we went back to my house where family and friends greeted us. One more BIG SURPRISE was that my parents had flown in from Pennsylvania to be there! And if that wasn’t enough... after the party Adam showed me a video compilation from my friends and family from all over the world. I laughed, I cried. It is still VERY surreal and I am so excited and grateful at just the prospect of getting to be Mrs. Jess Jones AHHH!

For all the days along the way
