Things To Do

We're so excited to introduce you to the vase expanse of West Texas! It's the size of Iceland! Because of how far apart things tend to be, there probably won't be time on Saturday for excursion too far from the hotel. If you'd really like to explore the area, come early in the week!

Big Bend National Park

Big Bend National Park, TX

The city of Marathon is the Northern gateway to Big Bend National park. Go explore the park that captivated Jared as a kid! It's about 40 minutes away from the Gage. Eat at the Chisos Mountain Lodge for a killer view of the sunset. We recommend the hike to the Window Trail (5.2 miles with 948 feet of elevation) for an iconic view of the park.

Marfa, Texas

Marfa is an iconic West Texas town with culture and good food to boot. Explore the Marfa art scene including the Chianti Foundation, a world-class museum dedicated to the art of Donald Judd and his contemporaries. Eat at Marfa Burritos or Convenience West for finger licking good food.

Balmorhea

Balmorhea, TX 79718

Like to swim? In addition to the pool at the hotel, you can jump into the crystal clear waters of Balmorhea, the world’s largest spring-fed swimming pool. Be sure to book a day pass in advance! The park no longer takes walk-ins.

Starlight Theatre

631 Ivey Road, Terlingua, TX 79852

Located in the heart of the Terlingua Ghost Town, the Starlight Theatre offers a dinner spot where you can enjoy a cocktail, dance to a band, or dine. When ordering you can’t go wrong with the chicken-fried antelope steak; the tantalizing aroma of the brown gravy sets mouths a’watering. You can also go very right with the tequila marinated quail.

Alpine

Alpine, TX

Cruise into Alpine to visit the beautiful Sul Ross University campus where the Museum of the Big Bend tells the story of the region and features regional art exhibits.

Fort Davis

Fort Davis, TX 79734

Fort Davis, the highest town in Texas, is a charming, historic town with one of the best persevered frontier military posts in the nation.

McDonald Observatory

McDonald Observatory, TX 79734

A little further up the road is the McDonald Observatory, home to two 20-foot Ash domes that currently houses a RCOS 16″ Ritchey-Chrétien telescope. Guests to the observatory’s Evening Sky Viewing parties enjoy a front row seat to the Milky Way.
