January of 2016, Billy and Jennifer met briefly at an event for their church, Mosaic, on Jennifer's second week attending. Over the next few weeks they got to know each other better. Eventually they decided to go out to Magic Kingdom on what Billy thought was just casual coffee, Jennifer thought was a date, and God knew would end up BEING a date. In May of 2016, Jennifer was in the hospital for five days due to a neck injury. Billy barely left her side. (This is when her parents knew she had found "the guy," but it took the couple a little longer to figure that out). After that, they knew it was time to jump in. The next two and a half years would be some of the most exciting, challenging, frightening, and wonderful days. Spoiler alert: there's a happy ending.
Billy and Jennifer had a double date planned with their friends Austin and Emily at a Disney resort. Austin and Emily texted to say they would be late, so Billy and Jennifer decided to walk around the resort to kill time. They stumbled upon an Ariel statue (Jennifer's favorite princess), and went into the lobby adjacent from it. Billy led Jennifer into a quiet room that was pleasantly decorated with a beach theme, two bookcases, and subtle Disney references. On one bookcase he had placed a Christmas gift from two years ago: three picture frames with quotes from Jennifer's favorite books that he had illustrated. The next bookcase had another picture frame: it was an unfinished craft piece from another double date (Austin and Emily are the best couple to go out with, in case anyone is curious). On the frame there was an empty section that Jennifer had previously somewhat jokingly suggested "You can write 'Will you marry me?' on there." Instead, Billy wrote "Let's start a new story," going along with the whole book theme (Jennifer is a big reader and libraries are her happy place). He said some more really romantic things that Jennifer can't remember, but after he got down on one knee and she accepted, he led her to another room where many of their friends were waiting to celebrate with them! They are blessed to be loved by such a wonderful community.
