It's kind of a funny story. To my knowledge neither of us were looking for anything or anyone in particular. We were trying to break up what our lives were at the time and get out of our comfort zone. Karaoke really changed our lives.. I remember seeing her and having my eyes on her when she was out for a work Christmas party. Everyone was wearing Christmas sweaters and singing pop-punk songs at karaoke because she was the only that was capable of carrying a tune. I thought it was so fun that I have a video of her on my phone singing with her friends, three months before we even started talking to eachother. I had my eyes on her since then. It didn't matter that she was always out in her bowling alley work uniform. Over the next few months when she would come out I would always finding myself looking at her. Only once did our eyes meet and she was quick to turn her head. She clearly didn't want to get caught staring but it was too late at that point. Cut to March of 2022.. I was spending my Thursday night at karaoke in the Red Eye Room in Bismarck when after an hour or so she sat down with her friends, still in her work uniform. After a few times of going up to sing, her friend Sam came up to me. That's when it all really started. Sam casually and bluntly asked “Are you single?", to which I replied "I can be". I knew who was really asking and the thought that went through my head was "I can be for her" as I watched her with her head in her hands out of embarassment. I didn't know that I really wanted anything, but something told me taking this chance would probably pay off very well for me. Boy, did it. Later on in the night the karaoke host stuffed a crumpled up napkin into my pocket. Written on that napkin was a phone number and the words "Text me😊". I knew who wrote it. She still stayed there for awhile with her friends but never approached me. When I contacted her later she said she had to leave, but I knew she was still there to watch my reaction to receiving it. Over the next few days and likely hundreds of text messages we connected. It all went so fast. I found out we had similar interests, the same favorite music, we both went to school for music, and so on. I let her know that I didn't want to play games and she was going to get 100% of what I had and what I was good or bad, and we can address it when we get to it. She quickly responded in kind. It didn't take long for us to say "I love you", although she made the first move. Time went by quickly after that and I never felt so happy, so complete, so full. I knew I was going to ask her to marry me. We were very quick to start planning our wedding, jokingly at first, but it all became very real and I never once was hesitant about it. I was ready. Several months later we started planning towards our futures but it wasn't without a bit of fun such as camping trips, moving the bed into the living room to marathon Lord of the Rings while eating Buffalo Wild Wings, and music festivals. Everything I didn't know I needed— she was there to take me with her. I loved every second of it. In October of 2022 I knew that was it. We discussed what kind of ring she wanted and without thinking I went online and bought it for her the next day. Keeping it hidden was tough; I just wanted to see her wear it. The next two months were spent planning. She gave me a napkin at karaoke so I knew there was no better way to propose than to do it at karaoke and with napkins. One by one as I was singing my song to her our friends began to give her napkins with a little note I'd written to her. When I finally brought her up and got down on one knee, in her disbelief she shouted "NO! WHAT?!", but she quickly said yes afterward. The song?: Can't Help Falling In Love Always have, Always will. The rest is history, a history we'll talk about until we find eachother in the next life.
