We met while going to Utah Valley University and lived in the same apartment building. Landon living on the 1st floor, and Ness living on the 3rd. So naturally this led to Landon becoming friends with her five other roommates, while she was gone on a family vacation. So Ness remained mysterious to Landon, known only by the moniker “Jen” marking all the food she wished to remain untouched by roommates. Landon says he can remember Ness walking through the door to her apartment, fresh off her trip to Hawaii, wearing a newly purchased long green t-shirt and sporting a broad smile. This smile enthralled him enough that he vowed to get to know her. Jenessa on the other hand says she doesn't remember that moment. Instead, she remembers waking up one morning to a random boy in her apartment, brimming with excitement as he vigorously whipped up batter for pancakes. One thing you should know about Jenessa, is that her love for food outweighed her willingness to engage in conversation with a complete stranger. So whether it was love at first sight, or the easy flowing conversation uttered over strawberry pancakes, it was clear to both of them that what was occurring between them was different-was special. Unbeknownst to each other, they both began plotting ways to spend more time with each other. Landon never skipped a class, so Jenessa started to “forget” to go to class in hopes of spending more time with this new found love interest. Landon decided to take a more bold approach. He planned a hike that would begin in the middle of night in order to catch the first snowfall of the year on the peak of a mountain. This hike was the furthest thing from a picturesque snowfall. The sky unleashed its fury in the form of a blizzard. But the severity of it was lost on them as they continued onward. The promise of private conversation, and butterflies of adolescent romance spurred them forward, as the intense cold was driven out by the warmth of newfound love. That night laid the foundation for them inevitably growing closer and closer together, until they became so attached at the hip that Landon called off his plans to return home to Wisconsin in hopes of living with his new love in the wonderful state of Utah. Now 10 years later we still sit here marveling at the ease of our meeting. We still can’t seem to explain why that initial spark was ignited for us. Even though young love is riddled with uncertainty, we trusted that spark enough to know it would lead us somewhere special. We allowed ourselves to be swept up in the magic of united laughs, confidences shared, and perpetual discovery we uncovered in one another. We have grown as individuals, and as a couple in this decade together. We have collectively discovered cultures, navigated the constant shifting of life, and learned the unending depths of our love. We can’t wait to share this very love with all of you on August 3rd.
