This coming August 2023 will mark the 10th year in the States for both Khoi and Jean, and it will also be their 10th year of being in love. Many of you have witnessed part of their love story and supported them wholeheartedly all this time. It would mean the world to them if you could come and celebrate their wedding on September 16, 2023. So their story began when Khoi and Jean were in the same TOEFL/SAT prep classes, studying hard to get good scores for their dream colleges. As natural as it could be, Khoi, with his strong math background, offered to tutor Jean on the SAT math section, and in exchange, Jean would help proofread his writing essay and quiz him on the critical reading part. It seemed like they had a good plan until they realized they were spending way too much time at the library, not only studying but also seeing each other. What was initially set as one session per week soon increased to two and then three times per week, expanding from math problems to chemistry and physics, with tons of text messages in between. Khoi would randomly text Jean with chemistry questions to get the conversation going. In today's language, his favorite pickup line would be: "NH4 + H2O = ?" And if Jean didn't reply fast enough, Khoi would text: "Wanna meet to review these important questions?" Fast forward to their college years, while Khoi spent his time in computer and hardware labs, pursuing his computer engineering degree at Iowa State University, Jean was busy exploring her passion for entrepreneurship and psychology with multiple internships and independent projects at the College of Wooster in Ohio. Their crazy schedules only overlapped for a three-hour-long Skype call on Saturday nights. They would save money from their minimum-wage, on-campus jobs to pay for bus tickets during school breaks in order to see each other. It was something only young, broke, and foolishly in love people would do. Traveling on a 16-hour interstate bus during blistering Midwest winters just to see each other for a week was one of those things. And somehow, it worked out very well for them. Four years of a long-distance relationship, with countless Greyhound/Megabus tickets, went as smoothly as it could. As college graduation approached, life seemed to have a plan for them on the East Coast. Upon moving to Boston for work and then graduate school, they met incredible groups of talented friends and ambitious colleagues who brought so much joy and fun challenges to their lives. Both of them were working in startups, which meant that no two days were alike. They discovered the thrill of shared startup experiences, with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. The learning curve was steep, but they promised each other that they would figure everything out as long as they had each other. The past six years in Boston were honestly the best chapter yet of their story. Boston kept them busy with countless opportunities for day trips to beaches, state parks, hiking spots, farmer markets, and community events. They now have two furry babies, Oli (1.5 years old) and Amber (2.5 years old), whom they love very much. The companionship and happiness that Oli and Amber brought to their daily lives were beyond words. With a solid foundation built through many years of loving, trusting and respecting each other, Jean and Khoi are now looking forward to starting a life and raising a family together in their favorite city of Somerville. This coming September 16, they are overjoyed to have both of their parents, Khang Cao and Huong Nguyen, and Don Pham and Huong Tran, along with their beloved family members in Vietnam, flying to the States to join them on their big day. It will be an absolute pleasure for Jean and Khoi to have your presence and blessings as they embrace this new chapter together!
