So she prefers Jazzy, but I call her Jazz so I’m rolling with that. Oh and I know; shocker, the journalism major is writing this (had to use my degree for something). Remember Covid? Same. In 2020 when the world was shut down, we did what every other person did; we downloaded dating apps. After a couple months of meh, Jazz and I matched on Hinge. We matched in early May and didn’t speak much at all, but I believe we were both just waiting for the right words. Or at least that’s what we’ll say now to make it sound better. Late in May, we had started to Snapchat back and forth more and more. I was hanging out in my room one night playing video games when I saw my Snapchat video going off. It was from Jazz and I can’t even lie I got so sweaty, so fast. I went to finally answer the call, but as I swiped to answer, the video went away. At first I was kinda confused, but I decided to call back. Jazz answers the video chat and basically was like “I didn’t mean to video call you!” but to this day I tell her she knew exactly what she was doing. We ended up talking for an hour and decided we wanted to see each other in person. On May 30th of 2020 while the world was quiet, Jazz traversed her way over to my apartment in Dorchester. I lived in a 3 BR apartment with two roommates right on Dorchester Ave. Calling that area “nice” would not be one of the first 50 adjectives I would use to describe it. I wanna say it was a little awkward at first, but it honestly never really was. We got some food at Lambert’s (yes her family owns it) and talked for a few hours. We also started a Paint by Number painting. We never did finish that painting… By the end of the night, we were both more than interested in hanging out again. We ended up meeting up like 6 times in the first 2 weeks; just learning more and more about each other. On June 14th, Jazz came over to my apartment single, but left in a relationship. I didn’t know for sure that I was going to ask that day, but destiny had other plans. We were drinking wine and talking on my roof and watching the sky when fireworks started to go off. My roof had a perfect view of the city, and the fireworks were going off right near the skyscraper skyline. It was such a beautiful moment that further validated how I already felt. I asked Jazz to be my girlfriend, and the rest is history.
