Insanely gorgeous short hike to an overlook of one of our favorite canyons in the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness. About 1 hour from Missoula, about 20 minutes from the venue.
If you’re up for a longer hike, this is one of our favorites! About 7 miles in you’ll find a little waterfall. About 1 hour from Missoula, about 20 minutes from the venue.
Gorgeous Lake Como offers amazing mountain views with a sandy beach. Hike to the west end of the lake to find an awesome waterfall. About 1 1/2 hours from Missoula.
If you’re feeling adventurous, hike to the top of the tallest peak in the Bitterroot Mountains and Selway Bitterroot Wilderness. It’s a 4 mile, very uphill, very strenuous hike. It’s absolutely breathtaking at the top. About 1 hr and 45 minutes to get the the trailhead from Missoula. Worth it.
Rent tubes and rafts and float the gorgeous Blackfoot River. Those tiny cabins behind the rentals? That’s where we lived for the first 3 years we were in Montana. The Blackfoot is near and dear to our hearts. 20 minutes from Missoula.
If your spending an extended amount of time in Montana, this park is a must. 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours from Missoula depending on your route and how many stops you make to gawk :)
This is listed as a campground but there is day use here as well. Swim in the lake, rent kayaks or paddle boards, take an easy 2 mike hike to a waterfall overlooking the lake with an incredible view of the Mission Mountains. This could be an option on your way to Glacier. 1 1/2 hours from Missoula.
Largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi, surrounded by mountains, cherry orchards, and also on your way to or from Glacier NP. 1 1/2 hours from Missoula.
Beautiful lake in the Swan Valley, rent jet skis or kayaks, on your way to Holland Lake and Glacier NP. 1 hour from Missoula.
