Wedding Update -

An Invitation to Celebrate From Afar

Dear Family and Friends, As we joyfully look forward to celebrating our marriage on October 10, 2020 in Birmingham, Alabama, we hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy, and able to find moments of peace and humor throughout this tumultuous year. While we wish we were able to celebrate in person with all of our family and friends, due to the continued coronavirus pandemic, we have decided to marry in a smaller ceremony than originally planned – with only immediate family and wedding party. Although we will not be able to be with you face to face, we invite you to raise a glass in celebration where you are, and join us virtually for the ceremony. Please see our "Virtual Celebrations" tab of our website with a link to join the live stream of our ceremony, starting with a music prelude at 4:30 PM on Saturday, October 10th. We also would love for you to send us a note or video message via the website, if you feel so inclined. Thank you for your continued support and patience as we navigate the best way forward. We are deeply grateful for our many blessings and are sending our love to you as we anticipate many celebrations together in the future! With much love, Jane Latham & Alex The Hodges and Nance families

Our Story

Jane Latham + Alex

Jane Latham and Alex (aka "Nance") were initially introduced through their mutual friends, Dagny Leonard and Mike Sass, at Dagny’s Christmas party in Washington, DC in 2012. Jane Latham was intrigued, as Nance and Sass discussed international relations over a game of beer pong. Alas, Nance lived in Richmond and JL in DC, so they parted ways. Three years later, Nance was back in town, tagging along to another house party with Mike. The night ended in karaoke, and when quiet, reserved Alex joined for a group rendition of “Sweet Home Alabama”, Jane Latham took notice. On their first date, Alex patiently listened to Jane Latham’s entire collection of Beatles albums, followed by a meal at Alex’s favorite Vietnamese restaurant, where he introduced JL to her first bowl of pho. A mere 3 months later, Alex headed overseas for a 12-month stint with the Army in Kuwait. Not the best timing…or was it? Jane Latham and Alex spent the next year getting to know each other via emails, facebook messages, letters, and an occasional “morale phone call” courtesy of the US Army. When Alex returned to DC in January 2017, they picked up right where they left off. They spent the next two years dating and getting to know each other’s families over holidays and trips to Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Wisconsin. In July 2019, on a beautiful summer evening, Alex proposed on the Georgetown waterfront, timed to coincide perfectly with the “golden hour” on the Potomac river. After a special dinner at one of their favorite spots, Chez Billy Sud, they stepped next door for a celebratory drink at the Bar à Vin, and lo and behold! Jane Latham’s family had flown in from Birmingham to join in the celebrations, which continued into the next day with Alex’s family and close friends. They are looking forward to continuing their adventure and celebrating a lifelong commitment to one another on October 10, 2020 in Jane Latham’s home town of Birmingham with all of their loved ones.
