In addition to Multnomah Falls, the Columbia Gorge is home to many other gorgeous waterfalls. Take the Columbia River Gorge Scenic highway and wind through the mossy forest and be sure to check out our favorites, Latourell Falls and Bridal Veil (Although many more are worth a stop!). Check out the Columbia River Gorge Vista House for a beautiful view!
You haven’t been to a rose garden like this one! A stunning view of Mount Hood, hundreds of rows of roses in just about every color...and the fragrance?! Just make sure you visit. There is also a world famous Japanese Garden and the Portland Zoo in the same vicinity. Located in NW Portland, about 30 minutes drive from Edgefield.
The most epic bookstore you will ever visit. Encompassing an entire city block and multiple levels, it is basically a library of really cool new and used books, funky gifts and a coffeehouse cafe. Even if you’re not a bookworm it is still a fun place to visit! Located in downtown Portland, about a 25 minute drive from Edgefield.
Calling Nature lovers! The Oregon Coast is home to a diverse array of wildlife. Yaquina Head Lighthouse is worth a visit especially during low tide when you can explore the colorful sea stars, sea urchins and anemones. Bring binoculars so you can look for Grey Whales on the horizon, up into the cliffs for waterfowl and down into the bay to see lounging harbor seals. Further north on Highway 101 you will encounter the city of Depoe Bay, which is famous for whale watching. If you continue to drive North up the scenic highway 101, you will pass many beautiful beaches in Lincoln City, and in Canon Beach, you can see the famous Haystack Rock. Furthest north is Astoria, where the Columbia River empties into the Pacific, and it is also where the 1980’s movie, The Goonies, was filmed. Depending where you want to visit, the Coast is about 2-3 hours drive from Edgefield.
We are lucky to be getting married at such a unique place! If you are not staying at Edgefield, I recommend checking it out if you have time. Edgefield is popular with both locals and tourists and after you visit its not hard to understand why! The McMenamin brothers own many restaurant/hotel/ concert venues in the Pacific Northwest. The Edgefield property was a Poor house during the Great Depression, and housed those down on their luck who worked the farm for their keep. Later it became nursing home before the McMenamins brothers bought it in the 1980s. On the property you will find: a hotel, two restaurants, a movie theater, a spa, a most impressive lagoon style soaking pool, a golf course, a vineyard, food and flower gardens, a winery tasting room, a glass blower, and too many bars to count. The entire property is hand painted by local artists.
