How We Met

1.8.18

Christopher messaged Emily on Tinder with a Joey Tribiani gif of "How You Doin?" and the rest is history! We messaged back and forth for a few days and then finally exchanged numbers. Emily was going to Chicago for the weekend and she knew Christopher's friend lived in the city. She tried to play it cool and asked him if he was seeing his friend in Chicago anytime soon. He said he was going that weekend, so Emily asked him and his friends to meet her and her friend out. On February 10, we met for the first time at a bar called Headquarters Beercade. On February 14 (Valentine's Day), he sent flowers to her apartment. He had the wrong address, so it took a lot of messages back and forth to get the correct address and not spoil the surprise. Christopher visited Emily at Illinois State University on March 3, 2018 and the boyfriend & girlfriend title became official.

The Proposal

3.6.21

Our anniversary is on March 3. We had planned to go to Chicago for the weekend with our dogs and go to a nice dinner at Cité. On March 6, we had a fun day in the city and later went back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. Christopher gave Emily a nice camera for Christmas, so he mentioned he wanted to take her to Navy Pier before dinner to take some photos. Emily thought nothing of this because he has brought her to neat areas to take photos before and Navy Pier is directly across the street from the restaurant anyway. We were supposed to leave the hotel at 6:45pm. At 6:45pm, on the dot, Christopher was just about to order the Uber until he received a text message from Emily's brother, Jordan, saying that Navy Pier is closed due to Covid 19. Antsy, Christopher had to come up with a plan QUICK! In the meantime, he stalled himself a good 25 minutes in the bathroom before Emily got annoyed asking what on earth was taking so long. After about a half hour, he finally came out of the bathroom and we left. He said we were going to make a pit stop at another area to take pictures first since he couldn't say anything about Navy Pier being shut down. We got in the Uber and the driver started to say where we were going and Christopher yelled over him so Emily didn't hear where we were headed. The Uber driver dropped us off on Magnificent Mile right in front of the largest Starbucks in the world. He pointed out a specific area right in front of the building to take a really pretty picture down Mag Mile. As Emily was taking the picture on her camera, she felt a tug on her coat. She turned around and Christopher was down on one knee asking her to spend forever with him! Emily then looked up and saw both of their families watching it all unfold in the Starbucks glass windows on the second floor. It was absolutely unforgettable and such a magical night!
