How We Met

Dee and I met at a destination wedding at the Breathless resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. I was my cousin Kathy's Maid of Honor, and Dee was the guest of the groom, Cat. We introduced ourselves at the airport but later found out we were both from Easton. I even went to high school with Dee's younger brother, Boo, but never knew or met Dee. Talk about a small world! We ended up having the same flight out to DR and transfer ride into the resort. Although we didn't really interact much, I knew ya man's was checking ya girl out ;) Then, as fate would have it, we managed to check into our rooms first before the rest of the group, so we decided to grab drinks and explore the resort! The bar was directly downstairs, so we stopped and asked Frank, the bartender, to pour up some shots. He made us DR's infamous Mama Juana shots and demanded we kiss after the shot and well... it was LOVE at first kiss!

How He Proposed

Fast forward to January 5, 2021, my late Mama's birthday. This day was understandably gloomy so I hadn't been paying attention to Dee being out most of the day. He had told me earlier in the day that we had dinner reservations around 6pm and thought he was just out running errands before dinner. He comes home, we get dressed, and Grammy, Ca'Ley, and Myra walk us out to leave for dinner. Little did I know, my sisters and God son that live in Miami, FL, had driven up to surprise me and were right around the corner from our home. Sneakyy! We made it to dinner at River & Post, and I started realizing how strange Dee was acting. He made odd comments about the decor of the restaurant, wasn't really eating any of the delicious food, and was on his phone A LOT. Well if you know me, you know I'm a foodie so I took it upon myself to eat most of our appetizer and entree, and was then anxiously waiting to hear the dessert options. Unbeknownst to me, Dee had already informed the waiter ahead of time of his plan to propose and was told to cut me off before dessert. RUDE but my man knows me best and he knew I would've kept going! So I chug my drink and we then head upstairs to the rooftop bar for a night cap. We get on the elevator to a group of sweet ladies who let us know we look beautiful, and asked what was the occasion. Me: It's my late Queen's birthday. Lady: It's my birthday too! I hope y'all are having a great night then. Dee: Oh, we are. But it's about to be even greater. The next few minutes of the night felt like a movie!!! Cue the elevator opening, Dee grabs my hand and shows me our closest family and friends waiting for us in our rooftop section! He even had our family and friends on FaceTime waiting on standby! They all began singing Happy Birthday to my Mom with cake and candles. Full of emotion and love, I turn to gather myself and turn back again, to see the love of my life on bended knee asking me to marry him, to which I happily reply "YES!"
