It wasn’t until one fine summer day in August of 2020 that Mary and Jake decided to meet for an early morning breakfast. They had been exchanging pleasantries via the Hinge app for the better half of two weeks, but Jake was eager to meet Mary in person and take her out on a date. Mary was working the night shift at Troy Beaumont Hospital at the time, so they decided to meet at Downtown Cafe in Rochester for some bacon and eggs after her shift. Although they had only met online a couple of weeks ago, it had felt like they’d known each other for much longer. As the conversation ebbed and flowed, they soon discovered that they had many mutual friends and even went to the same college as one another (Go Green!). Although their opinions differed on which campus bar was best, they both agreed that the best late night snack after an evening out was the Taco Bell right off Grand River. Jake also earned brownie points by wearing a yellow shirt that day, which he soon found out was Mary’s favorite color. Fast forward to a couple months later… The two had been out on numerous dates and the time came when Jake was ready to ask Mary to be his girlfriend. To his disappointment, she stated that she wasn’t ready to attach a label to their relationship. It wasn’t until the following month that she insisted he wait no longer and that she was ready to make it official. Jake was exuberant knowing that he was dating a girl that he earnestly saw a future with. Their relationship continued to flourish during their dating years. Mary proved to be a formidable opponent during the couple's regular rummy matches and Jake was no slouch when it came to “go fish”. It was during the Fall of 2022 that Jake proposed to Mary on the banks of the Paint Creek River in downtown Rochester. The joyful moment was followed by a celebration with family and friends, and now the anticipation of a wedding on the horizon. The couple recently purchased a home in Oxford, Michigan and enjoys going out to dinner, going for walks, spending time with family, weekend getaways in northern Michigan, and babysitting her parents' newly acquired labradoodle, Cosmo.
