Jake had to go halfway across the country to find out Lindsey existed. He was visiting his friends Daniel and Kat in Louisville, KY when they ran across some of their friends- the Hilpp family. After finding out that Jake was from Oklahoma City, they revealed that they had an "adopted" daughter who lived there. She had lived with them for a year during an internship and they've stayed close since then. They told him that he "should ask her on a date." Jake was skeptical and didn't want to hurt their feelings by saying "no." Then he saw a picture of her and thought "eh, why not?" So he did...and they met for coffee. Fast forward a couple months. Things between them were now official and Lindsey knew Jake was the real deal. Every day they were discovering where their paths could have once crossed- the same church camp, the same internship at CIY, a ton of mutual friends- even his dad knew her parents' names. He took her to meet his friends. She took him to meet her friends. They went to each other's get-togethers. People began to expect this to last. Fast forward again. It's two weeks until Lindsey and Jake fly to Hilton Head, SC to meet the Hilpps for their vacation. Jake gets ahold of the Hilpp girls- Emma and Grace- and commissions them to help him with a big surprise he's planned. He would have them plant a "washed up" bottle on the shore. He and Lindsey would come across it and she would read the note that would set the rest of their lives in motion. Two weeks later, it's windy Thursday afternoon in the beach condo on Hilton Head. Lindsey is cleaning up for dinner while the girls have made their way down to the ocean. After she's finally ready, they walk down to join the girls who are "taking pictures." Emma suggests they walk down the shoreline for a picture when they find the bottle. In it, Lindsey reads a note that prompts Jake to get down on his knee and ask her to marry him.
