We had such a hard time planning a "traditional" wedding. We realized pretty quickly that it wasn't something either of us wanted, and none of the options we considered suited us as a couple. Jake brought up the possibility of doing a destination wedding, and we quickly became fans of the idea! We live so far away from family and friends, and we really wanted our wedding to feel like something we could be excited about--we wanted the focus to be on fun and celebration, and we didn't want all of the attention and expectation. We are excited to celebrate with anyone who is willing and able to join us in the Dominican Republic--especially since our alternate plan was to elope!
**It is still possible to book with the group, and time is of the essence! Please contact Tracy with questions!** If you wish to join us in the Dominican Republic, travel reservations must be made with the wedding travel agent--Tracy Sheehan. Please visit the Travel page for Tracy's contact information.
This is important information, and we need to know so that we can ensure the food at our wedding is prepared safely and labeled clearly! Please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/LHNKnwcffujeeGbs9
We will miss you! We knew that our choice to have a destination wedding would mean that, unfortunately, many of the people we invite wouldn't be able to join us. Since we live so far away from all of our family and friends, and we couldn't plan around life's unpredictability, we already knew that many guests would have been unable to join us even if we got married in Boston. We are not planning to host any additional wedding celebrations; however, after the wedding, we are planning to connect with guests who were unable to attend. We are happy to catch up in the way that works best--like over dinner if we are in town or through a video call if we are unable to schedule an upcoming visit!
If we were doing a destination wedding, we knew we wanted it to be at an all-inclusive resort. We wanted guests to be able to relax and enjoy their time away without worrying about making an itinerary, budgeting for food and drink, or planning their whole weekend around our wedding (seriously, we do not like the attention haha). We wanted the wedding to feel like a fun additional activity to a casual vacation! We also wanted to make sure the property was well-kept, had a great reputation, and offered lots of good choices for food (this was an absolute must for Ari). Although we considered a couple other resorts and countries, our travel agent suggested the Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana as her #1 recommendation. After some research, we quickly decided that this was our top choice as well! Neither of us has ever been to the Dominican Republic, so it seemed fitting to create the memories of our new marriage in a new and beautiful place!
Wedding guests have a 3-night minimum stay; however, you are welcome choose your arrival and departure days as long as you will be staying the night before and the night of the wedding (Sunday and Monday night). You are also welcome to stay longer if you wish.
As you can imagine, popular dates get reserved well ahead of time. The resort's available 2025 dates before winter were limited; however, our date is a US Holiday (Memorial Day). Requests for time off work would have been necessary for most guests regardless of the date, so we are hoping that the holiday makes it easier.
We want our guests to be comfortable! Feel free to dress up or dress more casually--wear white if you'd like! The ceremony location is on sand, so we recommend appropriate shoes. Ari wouldn't be surprised if Jake carries her into the ocean after the ceremony, so you can wear your swimsuit if you'd like to join us in the water (don't worry--we can all change into dry clothes before the reception). Although we encourage you to wear what you would like, we want to remind you that our wedding venues are on the family-friendly side of the resort, so please wear appropriate clothing.
