Like most millennials, we matched online when in May of 2019 we both swiped right on OkCupid. Our first date included tacos and margaritas at Cantina Dos Segundas in Philly’s Fishtown neighborhood, followed by a wine and a beer (or two) at Evil Genius Brewery up the street. We instantly clicked and started sharing stories of our childhoods, discussing our futures, and even making plans to see the Broadway musical, "The Book of Mormon", together as a follow-up date (which would have to come a little further down the road than we both had thought once we saw how much the tickets were…) Our following dates were great too – even the fourth one where Jake's car was almost set on fire following an act of roadside altruism where the couple prevented a house in Bucks County from going up in flames. You'll have to ask us more about that.
A few of our favorite memories of our time together include; sailing on Otsego Lake in Cooperstown, NY (Jake's hometown), hiking day trips at State Parks, exploring small towns in South Jersey & rural Pennsylvania, finding treasures at our local thrift shops, skiing in the Poconos, playing board games with our friends, rides on the train to New York City, and finally getting to see that musical in December 2021. We also moved in together during the COVID pandemic to Jake's one-bedroom apartment (both working remotely), upgraded to a two-bedroom apartment in Bala Cynwyd, and, most recently, bought a house together in Stratford, NJ, June of 2021, where we enjoy completing house projects and having our loved ones over for dinner, board games, watching the latest true crime documentaries, and listening to records.
Jake and Marisa were recently engaged after a day of skiing together. As a side note, Jake is an expert skier with a need for speed and an affinity for Black Diamond trails with steep slopes. As for Marisa, while she is more than a beginner skier, the last time she hit the slopes was when she had a blue iPod mini as her primary source of music. Earlier that day, Marisa attempted a Black Diamond trail, had a slight panic attack, and was instructed by ski patrol to remove her skis and hike up the mountain to get back onto an easier trail. Even though Marisa didn’t make it down the Black Diamond trail, Jake made sure that she still got a diamond in by the end of the day when he proposed to her at the lodge, asking, "So no diamond’s today? No? Well, what am I going to do with this?" as he pulled out an engagement ring.
We can't wait to celebrate with you at our wedding ceremony and reception on November 4th at the Camden County Boathouse!
