Jessie and Jackie have been friends since the first grade at Cold Spring Elementary School in Santa Barbara, California. From their very successful dog walking business as kids (Jessie and Jackie Dogwalking TM, est. 1997) to car singing, sky diving, backpacking and ocean jumping as adults, Jess and Jackie have an unbreakable bond and obsession for adventure that knows no boundaries. Jessie and her husband Shaw live in Santa Barbara, CA, a quick hop up the coast from Jackie and Karl.
Mark Lind
Best Man
Mark is Karl’s little brother and great friend. You’ll have no trouble identifying him - they look (and sound) shockingly alike! Despite Karl’s confusion at age five when Mark came home from the hospital (“is it time to take him back now?”) the two are extremely close friends, and have had the joy of living in the same city more often than not! Mark also went to Madison - where Karl’s friends quick dubbed him “New Karl” after Karl graduated. They both now live in Santa Monica - though Mark has been working from Vietnam for the past 6 months. Mark and Karl share a great love for travel and the outdoors, from canoeing the Boundary Waters, hiking the Grand Canyon and Pikes Peak, driving together cross country and exploring Germany.
Becca Alper (aka Bean)
Bridesmaid
Bean (ask her about the nickname) and Jackie met at ski school in Sun Valley, Idaho around age 7 have been inseparable ever since. From adventurous trips to Spain, Chile, and Argentina to the millions of miles they have skiied together, Bean has been an honorary part of the Zupsic family for years. Jackie and Karl also spent the pandemic with Bean in Idaho, where she was a founding member of the #Quarenteam. Bean grew up in Minnesota, which was perhaps one of the things that drew Jackie to Karl when she learned he was from there. She now lives in San Francisco.
Joey Birdsong
Groomsman
Joey and Karl met in the 2nd grade at Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis while playing football on the playground. The two became fast friends and trouble makers - shifting two hand touch to tackle football any chance they could. Growing up together, Joey and Karl were more or less inseparable, with their parents shuttling the duo between one another’s homes constantly. Over time, while not living in the same state, the two stayed in close touch, keeping each other posted on life updates and stoking the fire of their ongoing rivalry between the MN Gophers and WI Badgers. Jackie always knows when Karl’s talking to Joey on the phone - it’s the hardest he laughs. Joey and his wife Clara now live in Minnesota with their adorable new son, Luca.
Brigette Burkholder
Bridesmaid
Bridgette is Jackie's cousin, dear dear friend and travel partner. "Cousin B", is the granddaughter of Pat Logan who married Jackie's grandfather Ray Logan after his wife Phyllis (Jackie's biological grandmother) passed away. Growing up, the two knew OF each other, but had only met briefly as tiny kids. It was not until Sophomore year at University of Washington, where Bridgette approached Jackie at a frat party saying "I think you are my cousin" that they really connected! After college, Bridgette and Jackie both moved to New York City, where their bond only grew. JZ and B have explored far corners of the globe together, from Trinidad and Tabago to Croatia, Montenegro, Berlin and France...and the list goes on. Bridgette wins the award for farthest traveled, as she joins us from Paris, France, where she now lives.
Matt Bruns

Matt (also known as “Bruns”) and Karl go back to the early days of college at University of Wisconsin, Madison where they lied next to each other sophomore year and together junior year in the infamous “15 South” house. From Oktoberfest in Germany, the Kentucky Derby in Louisville, and countless nights of fun in New York, Karl and Bruns (and now Jackie and Bruns’ wife Anne) love any excuse to get together. Karl and Matt are forever bonded by their love of food, beer, and late nights with close friends. They both love a big group hang, though Matt holds the title for King of the, “come on guys, it’s not time for bed yet!” - odds are Matt will be the last man standing on the 21st.

RJ Rotman
Officiant
RJ Rotman is a childhood friend of Jackie's going back to the 6th grade who remained a core part of her, and now Karl's, life. When Jackie and Karl told RJ and his wife Emily they were moving to LA during the pandemic, his response was "No Way! So are we!" and the rest was history! From ski trips in Vail, roller blading sessions, dog beaches, dodger games and fun dinners out - no lack of fun is had when the four of us get together. On top of it all, RJ has always been one of the kindest, wisest and best people we know. And we are honored to have him officiate our wedding.
