Hike up the Tepozteco

Tepoztlán, Mexico

Hiking up Tepozteco in Tepoztlán is a captivating experience that combines natural beauty and cultural significance. The trail, about 2.5 kilometers long, winds through lush vegetation and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. As you ascend, you'll encounter ancient stone steps and the remnants of a 12th-century pyramid dedicated to the Aztec god Tepoztecatl. Reaching the summit rewards you with breathtaking panoramic views and a sense of connection to the region's rich history. It's a popular hike that attracts both locals and visitors, making it a memorable outdoor adventure. The hike can be done with or without guide, and takes about 1.5h. Make sure you bring water and take your time to adjust to the altitude!

Temazcal

Tepoztlán, Morelos, Mexico

A temazcal is a traditional Mexican sweat lodge, often used for therapeutic and spiritual purposes. The structure is typically made of stone or mud and is dome-shaped, symbolizing the womb of Mother Earth. During a temazcal ceremony, participants enter the heated space where heated volcanic stones are placed in a pit. Water infused with medicinal herbs is poured over the stones to create steam. Temazcal ceremonies are often led by a guide or shaman. The experience is meant to foster a sense of healing, and spiritual connection. A shaman can be booked.

Things to do and eat in Mexico City and Tepoztlán

My close friend Jen is a travel writer, and has written many blogs for Forbes and various travel guides with tips about Mexico. She has great recommendations about where to eat and what to do for both Mexico City and Tepoztlán! Here is a link to her blog.

SIM Card in Mexico

Airlo is an app to add an eSIM to your phone! Many things in Mexico are done through WhatsApp, so I highly recommend having a plan! It costs as little as 6$ US for 7 days.

Audioguides of Mexico

Our good friend Pablo has developed an audio guide app that has a ton of guides about Mexico! I will be sharing the link to download it shortly!
