In the heart of the pandemic, Isabelle and Andrew found each other on Hinge. After a week of warm, thoughtful messages, Andrew arranged their first date for July 24, 2020. They met at Idiom Brewing in Frederick, Maryland, where, over a few drinks on the patio, they quickly grew comfortable in each other’s company. The summer heat soon pushed them indoors to a nearby Mexican restaurant, where although Isabelle “ate all of the nachos,” conversation flowed effortlessly as they discovered common interests and glimpses of each other’s personalities. The night was still young and their connection was growing. After dinner, they took a walk through Baker Park. On a small wooden hanging bridge, Andrew said “This might sound strange, but… with everything going on, I feel like I should ask. I just got Covid tested for work, and I’m negative. Would it be okay if I kissed you?” Isabelle said she didn’t mind (the only time she’s ever kissed on a first date). They shared a kiss, then Andrew walked her to her car, and the date that began with curiosity and a few drinks had extended to over five very special hours. Isabelle and Andrew saw each other frequently over the next 3 weeks. Under a full moon on a picnic blanket, Andrew asked if she’d like to officially be boyfriend and girlfriend. And… Isabelle said no. She liked Andrew, but didn’t feel ready. Andrew, with his usual patience and warmth, took it in stride. Over the next 3 weeks, he never rushed her, but she knew he wouldn’t wait forever (rightfully so). Still, their weekends together continued, filled with laughter, understanding, and learning about one another. Three weeks later, after much soul searching and reflection, Isabelle found her answer. “So…you still want to be my boyfriend, right?” From there, their journey was filled with years of laughter, travel, and the joy of introducing one another to friends and family. Even the quiet, mundane moments became precious because they were shared. Now, as they look ahead, they hope to continue this adventure—through laughter, travels, and all of the ordinary moments—for the rest of their lives. We hope you will join them in celebration.
