Isaac and Rebecca are the classic “we met at work” story (shout out to brother-in-law Tat). Although they had been colleagues for over a year, it wasn’t until a grueling team bonding scavenger hunt that these two educators sparked a romantic connection. Even though Rebecca and Isaac lived in different boroughs (the ultimate long distance relationship), their love endured. Special thanks to the MTA for opening the Q line a year into our relationship and saving us hours of heartache. More time was spent bonding on the Q those first few years than on dates, but if you’ve seen the views from that train you’ll understand how love bloomed riding downtown towards Coney Island. Isaac made the bold choice to move out to the Bay Area when Rebecca decided to attend Berkeley Law School. And after driving across the country, living in a one bedroom apartment during the pandemic, studying for the bar, and being blessed with sweet Paloma, the new family of three made Oakland their home. Rebecca, Isaac, and Paloma have been lucky enough to build an amazing and loving community in the Bay Area over the last five years and couldn’t imagine a more perfect location to share their love, joy, and gratitude.
Isaac proposed on June 17, 2022. It was already shaping up to be a very special trip because Rebecca’s family was visiting Isaac’s hometown of Mazatlan, Mexico for the first time and meeting Isaac’s extended family. On the first morning, Isaac woke up at the crack of dawn energized and ready to go. He tried to wake up Rebecca (who values her sleep) and demanded to walk to the front desk to get some water bottles. She was less than enthused about this idea. Eventually Isaac got his future wife out of bed and they made their way down to the beach. That’s when Isaac popped the question. The answer was obviously yes! The entire weekend was filled with laughter, joy, food, and family. Something Rebecca and Isaac hope to recreate on their wedding day.
