A vacation was planned to Puerto Rico in October 2022 to celebrate Maria’s 29th birthday. Arrangements were made for a proposal in her home country, however, Hurricane Fiona destroyed these plans. They quickly restored their vacation by booking a Caribbean cruise. Maria (Tina) was completely unaware of Jay’s proposal so there was still hope in the surprise. The cruise’ itinerary stated that it would dock in St. Thomas on October 5, so he made arrangements with a local photographer to capture the proposal. The 5th symbolizes the day they began dating; So, what better day, time, and place to propose marriage? For 14 days, Jay wrote a letter. 14 ways of which he loves, cherishes, and adores her. Each letter wished for a life of health, happiness, success and unity for the days to come. However, this is normal of Jay to write letters like this, so she didn’t think anything of it until she realized the pattern: 14 days, 14 handwritten letters, and 14 letters in the sentence, “Will You Marry Me?”. Jay chose Sapphire Beach because a sapphire symbolizes loyalty, devotion, power, strength, kindness, and wise judgement. These are the main qualities he sees in Maria and wanted her to understand the importance of those qualities as they are in a wife. The fact that she displayed all of those and more, there was no question that she is the one for him. At 4:50 PM, Jay read the letters and connected the papers for her to see the sentence. She changed her posture after reading “Will” and filled her eyes with tears. She barely was able to enunciate a word, so she managed to nod and whisper, “Yes”. The photographer approached slowly from a distance, capturing these moments and assisted them to a photo shoot on the beach shortly thereafter. After the shoot, they returned to the ship, contacting their loved ones to share the great news.
