Getting there
There is only one airport in Malta - https://maltairport.com
There is NO need to rent a car in Malta (we barely use ours). Being a small island it is easy to walk or take taxis around. Taxis are cheap and they use an app called "Bolt" we recommend everyone to download prior to your trip.
We do not reccomend staying near the venue as that is not the greatest spot to enjoy your trip. We live in Sliema which is a great location to find an airbnb or hotel. Other areas to stay in would be St. Julians or Valletta.
There are very many nice boutique hotels in Malta but of course also a Hilton, Mariott and Radisson. The Preluna hotel and the 1926 Hotel and Spa that are both 1-5 minute walk from our home and the site of the welcome party and there are discount codes below. Both hotels have good rooms, although I would say 1926's rooms are more recently refurbished. The Preluna has more rooms with sea views and more restaurants within the hotel but both are close to the Boardwalk.

This hotel has many rooms with a sea view, however the rooms are not quite as nice as 1026 Hotel and Spa. Also, as with 1926 the discount is applied to the prevailing market rates so as we get closer to the date the market rate will increase.
