Our Story

Hunter and Taylor's story can be explained by nothing other than divine providence. Taylor was set to graduate from Baylor University in Waco, Texas in May 2022, and up until April, she had her sights set on pursuing a community health internship in Washington DC. When the internship was unexpectedly cancelled in early April, just two months before she was supposed to start, she reached out to Christ Community Health in Augusta, Georgia to see if the position she previously applied for was still available. It wasn't. Upon thoughtful prayer and deliberation, the medical director of the clinic was able to create a new position. Taylor moved to Augusta and began working at Christ Community in June 2022. She visited several churches in the area before deciding to get plugged in and rooted at Warren Baptist Church. Flashback to 2018, Hunter was stationed at Fort Gordon while in the US Navy. Fun fact, Hunter moved to Augusta on the same day Taylor graduated from high school in Salinas, California! He called Warren Augusta his church home by the end of 2018. Over the next several years, he got connected and took on positions of ministry leadership at Warren. By summer of 2021, Hunter and fellow groomsmen, Jonathan McNeal, were leading a Thursday night Bible study, or as Warren calls it, a Home Group. In July 2022, Taylor attended Hunter and Jonathan's Home Group for the first time. That night, Augusta was experiencing one of the biggest monsoons ever. Taylor entered Jonathan's home with a Nike umbrella in hand. It turns out that this umbrella was Hunter's first impression of Taylor as he thought, "Hm, I didn't know that Nike made umbrellas." The Home Group was beginning to overcrowd Jonathan's house each week, so the decision had been made to multiply the Home Group into two, one that Jonathan would lead, the other that Hunter would lead. Taylor and about ten others were handed blue strings, signifying that they would be part of Hunter's group. The following Thursday afternoon, Taylor was a bit confused about what was happening with Home Group. She had yet to receive confirmation that the group was meeting that day, much less an address and a time of to meet. It turns out that Hunter forgot to add Taylor to the new group chat. Thankfully, Taylor messaged Hunter that afternoon and asked about the Home Group situation. Disaster averted! Over the next few months, Taylor became an integral part of the Home Group, and found solid community. In October, Hunter and Taylor started hanging out more, particularly with Nathan and Cameron, two of Hunter's groomsmen. They went to holiday lights, took trips to Charleston and Greenville, and made some good food. In early January, after much deliberation, many prayers, and two shaky hands, Hunter asked Taylor on a date. He told her to not answer immediately, but think about it as her future in Augusta was uncertain due to her interest in going to medical school. The following day, Taylor said yes to a first date! Taylor and Hunter made it official in February 2023. They made a pact to be intentional in the dating process and stuck to it. Their relationship was put to the first real test when Taylor traveled to Europe for 5 weeks over the summer. Then, another test, Taylor moved to Omaha, Nebraska in late July to begin medical school at Creighton University. Then, another test. Long distance. They continued to prioritize their relationship amidst the difficulties and got engaged in Chattanooga, Tennessee on September 2, 2023. Within a week, another test. Taylor was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, and thankfully, Hunter was able to be by her side in the hospital. Hunter moved to Omaha in October 2023 and soon began working for the Dept of Defense. Taylor and Hunter are so excited to get married in May! They are looking forward to seeing the Lord work in new ways through their marriage.
