How We Met

07.15.17 Rumble Bumble - The Power of the Internet & Craft Beer

Hunter had just moved to Charlotte, NC from Dallas, TX - where she was born and raised - in July, 2017. Her new job as an insurance sales representative took her half way across the country. Not knowing a soul in this new town, she took to the dating apps hoping to get to meet some nice people and learn the city (also looking for a great dinner). She downloaded the dating app, 'Bumble', where she stumbled upon this tattooed, gun loving, six-pack of a man. Quickly they "matched" and had their first date setup for Saturday night at a local brewery, Old Mecklenburg Brewery (OMB for short). Coming from two different directions in Charlotte, they decided to meet at the brewery at 7 pm. For those of you that know Ryan and Hunter - he is typically (at least) 30 minutes late, while she is 15 minutes early. That date night, Ryan was 20 minutes early! Hunter hadn't even left her apartment before she received a text that he was there. Quickly she finished getting ready, called an Uber and headed that way. As she arrived, she texted him to let him know she'd be walking in and to look for her. For anyone that has ever been on a dating site, you will know that a lot of people do not look like their pictures... Well, Ryan broke this odd expectation of online dating and looked even better in-person! Hunter opened the door to OMB, immediately locking eyes with Ryan. He finished the last sip of his beer before walking over, to hug her and say, "Hi, I'm Ryan." Three years later, they live in a cute small house with two dogs - Ava, who is an Italian Mastiff and CoraLu, who is a French bulldog.

The Proposal

05.07.20 Questions while Quarantining

2020 isn't quite how anyone had imagined it. Mandatory masks, quarantining at home, not allowed into the office, stay 6 ft apart, the list goes on. After 6 months of trying to propose and a certain future fiance finding ways to unknowingly and continuously ruin it - late Thursday night, May 7th, Ryan made a plan to try this again. We were sitting in our living room, getting ready for bed, as we were leaving early the next morning to visit Hunter's parents in Cary, NC (surprising them for Mother's Day). Only a couple months into quarantine and Hunter asked Ryan, "What do you want to do different with our lives when this is all over?" With the expectation of an answer around going to more concerts, maximizing our weekends with friends or family, hiking, etc., she turned around, to find Ryan down on one knee - saying he didn't want to wait any longer to start our lives together and that this, our future, is what he wanted.
