Our Story

May 24th, 2018 marks the start of our story!

Our story began at one of the most romantic places in Columbia, South Carolina - the Five Points Saloon. One drink and a poorly delivered Jersey Shore reference later, and our lives would never be the same. Our final year of college together was dotted with incredible memories. Trips to watch the woeful South Carolina football team, attending concerts, sushi dates on top of the Horizon Garage at sunset, and so many other amazing moments filled that final year. We both agree our best year of college was the one we spent together as we rounded out our wonderful time at the University of South Carolina. Upon graduation, Hunter moved back to Atlanta for work, and Emma stayed in Columbia as she finished out her final semester prior to an early graduation. This began the first stint of a long distance relationship. FaceTime became our love language, and the limited time we had together was that much sweeter. Following Emma’s graduation in December 2019, we moved in together for the first time in an apartment in Vinings, GA. Little did we know, there was a major global event lurking around the corner. In the midst of the global pandemic, we hunkered down for what would be one of the hardest years of our lives in 2020. Job challenges, losing and nearly losing loved ones, and living in a socially distanced world was not how we anticipated spending our first year living together. However it was during this difficult time we learned to lean on one another always - and that so long as we had each other we could make it through any curve balls life throws our way. When we spent 73 days straight together in our small one bedroom apartment, and still wanted to spend time together… we figured we would be able to be together for the long haul. Emma moved to Charleston in September of 2020 to begin her first year of dental school, which would be the start of the second stint of long distance for us. Weekend trips from Atlanta to Charleston became the norm (thank you Monster, Red Bull, and Sour Skittles for powering those 6 hour drives) and Charleston became a playground for us to reconnect after long spells apart. Date nights at incredible restaurants, trips to the beach, and seeing the historic sights was how we made the most of our short time together. In 2022, Hunter finally was able to move to Charleston full time to join Emma as she approached the halfway point of dental school. Integrating as a proper Charleston local, Hunter picked up surfing and bought a paddle board. We continued to live our best life in what we would consider to be one of the greatest cities in the world, for the next two years. In January of 2024 on the coldest day of the year in Charleston, Hunter dragged Emma out to Sullivan’s Island under the guise of a “secret surfing expedition”. It was there Hunter dropped down on a knee and asked Emma if she would marry him. Since the engagement, we have moved to Wilmington, North Carolina where we bought our first home together. Emma graduated dental school and began her career as a dentist, and Hunter continues to work remotely in experiential marketing. Now, we are set to be married in this new city we call home!
