William and Emily met on Hinge, a dating app. After talking back and forth for a few months, William finally decided to ask Emily out on a date. They were set to meet at Atwater in the Park for drinks and dinner. An hour or so before they were supposed to meet, William came down with a "cold" and notified Emily he would not make it. Emily was incredibly disappointed but knew there was something special about him so she understood. A few weeks later, Emily was texting William as her friends just got engaged. Turns out, Emily and William had mutual friends! She invited him to celebrate their engagement at a bonfire. William came and the spark was instant. They would then see each other at least three times a week until they made it official on November 1st. As they got to know each other better Emily asked him about the date at Atwater and why he cancelled. William said he was so nervous to meet her that he got an upset tummy and had to cancel. They go back every year to celebrate the "first date" they never had. After two years of dating, William moved in with Emily in her house in Grosse Pointe. It also happened to be the month before the Pandemic. They thought they knew everything about each other until they were forced to spend months on end locked in the house together. They did many puzzles and home projects together and shortly realized if they could get through the pandemic together, they could get through anything. As time went on, Emily and William made many memories camping in the UP, weekend getaways to Chicago, Florida for Easter and even Hawaii with William's family.
On July 24, 2022 William asked Emily to go on a walk with the dog at the Ford House and have a picnic. This was a special place to them as it is often their go-to date spot. Emily thought this was a little sus as William is not one to plan a whole lot. She agreed and they had a great picnic lunch on a beautiful day. As they finished lunch, Emily reached into her bag for a dog treat and when she turned around she found William on one knee. She of course said yes and then exclaimed "Finally"!
