1 hour Portage Glacier Lake before tunnel Fishing charters Walk on the docks (It is 14.00 to drive through the tunnel to enter Whittier) Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is full of Alaskan wildlife located on the right side before the exit towards Whittier
Do not approach wildlife, do not feed wildlife, both are very harmful to you and/or the wildlife. Anchorage Alaska has a drug/alcohol/homeless population problem. Alaska is a beautiful state but this city in particular is one to be cautious of. Do not interact with the homeless/drug/alcohol population. It is not safe. Just like any other city, be aware of your surroundings. The weather changes frequently, the pass towards Girdwood is beautiful but narrow. Passing lanes are often not safe to pass in for tourists when you’re unfamiliar with the roads. Do not walk on the beaches south of Anchorage near Beluga Point, they are mud flats that sink you in and some people have died. If you’re looking for a beach to walk on go to Homer or a nice lake.
