Sleepy Hollow Cemetery is a rural cemetery located near the center of Concord, Massachusetts. The cemetery is the burial site of a number of the United States' greatest authors and thinkers, especially on a hill known as "Authors' Ridge." These include Nathaniel Hawthorne (The Scarlet Letter), Ralph Waldo Emerson, Louisa May Alcott (Little Women), and Henry David Thoreau. Concord, MA is also home to the Colonial Inn, one of the oldest hotels in America. The Inn has been in operation since 1716, and served as a hospital and morgue during the Revolutionary War. It is often called the most haunted hotel in Massachusetts, and Room 24 is the epicenter of ghost sitings in the building, as it once housed Dr. Timothy Minot's operating room, where many Patriot soldiers did not survive surgery.
Applecrest Farm is New Hampshire's oldest and largest apple orchard, as well the oldest continuously operated one in America. During October, guests can pick their own apples, raspberries, and pumpkins. Other attractions include an 800-pound jack-o-lantern, corn maze, live music, and their famus Hot Apple Cider Donuts. We took Bowen and Valen here during our trip in October 2022 and fell in love with the autumnal nostalgia that Applecrest personifies.
This beautiful state park in Eastern Connecticut is where we got engaged! The fall foliage is breathtaking, and visitors can enjoy an afternoon of fishing in Mansfield Hollow Lake or take in the water views from one of several trails in the park.
The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at the Roger Williams Zoo in Providence, RI is the premier pumpkin festival experience in all of New England. The walk-through experience features thousands of carved pumpkins and blew all four of us away when we visited this past October.
