At the end of our second and third year of college, we happened to meet through our mutual friends Jaclyn and Isaac. It was Isaac's 21st birthday, and Jaclyn invited her friends from Columbus and myself (Kenz) to join. There, Lucas and I talked so much that night, and I couldn't stop thinking about it! A few days later, with the help of my best wingwoman Jaclyn, she prompted Lucas to ask me on a date. That summer, we went on so many fun dates, like climbing, Kayaking, and playing games at parks and coffee shops. We had a month and a half before I went back to Tennessee and to decide if we wanted to make this official! Those few weeks of perfect first dates made it a no brainer to try out long distance. So it began, two years of Saturday morning FaceTime dates, meeting in Kentucky, and quickly learning that life would never go back to before knowing each other.
Last July, about two weeks after Lucas made the big move down to Tennessee (!!!!), he planned a perfect surprise. It was after church, and Abbi was driving me to a friend's where we usually ate dinner on Sundays. And after a slight detour, I was unknowingly dropped off to Lucas at a park with a ring and a BIG question! It was a complete surprise, so exciting, and the most perfect moment. Lucas and I are usually terrible at keeping surprises from one another, but he really pulled it off that time.
For now, we'll be in Chattanooga with a community and church family that's become ours, working jobs we are both excited about, and having fun!
