How We Met

"Accidentally" in Love

According to Her: It was a cold day back in 2014. I was home for Thanksgiving and asked one of my friends from the YMCA if she wanted to go to Loon Ski Mountain for the day. My friend asked 2 of her friends to come with us. Little did I know that one of them would end up being my future husband! Despite less than ideal conditions we skied the full day. At the end of our day we went down a run that required us to slow down one behind another. In order to avoid hitting me, he made a quick turn and CRASH! He slipped on ice and fell. He played tough & agreed to ski down to the lodge. We made it down the trail, but not to the lodge & the lift nearby was closed. We all hiked up a portion of the mountain in order to get down to the working ski lift. Showing-off, he tried to take a short-cut down to the other lift and ended up stuck in a ditch. Once at the lift we were told that to get to the lodge we would have to take the lift up to the peak & ski all the way down. He threw his hands up and asked the operator to get a medic to bring him to the mountain hospital to check out his injuries. A broken shoulder & rib is the cost he had to pay to get to where we are today! According to Him: Following a harrowing quest for the holy grail, Mark set forth on an arduous journey north. He was joined by an accompaniment of able bodied allies including his navigator Alex, an accomplished explorer and renowned dendrologist, and Kate a cunning matchmaker. The odyssey was at once threatened by the delayed arrival of a would-be stowaway who sought lodging in the rear of the galley. This interloper, Madeline (discipulus at the Temple Of America) was slowed by the process of "primping", and nearly missed the vessels departure. After many miles of travel, hours of cordial introduction and a twice-lost iPhone, she would prove to be Mark's undoing. He could not have foreseen that this seemingly harmless academic would prove a siren, every bit his equal, and ensnaring him for a lifetime.

The Proposal

11.04.18

The first sunny day in what felt like forever, we ventured out to the Museum of Fine Arts. In the museum we got hopelessly lost (this was all part of his plan). We ended up finding our way to the Japanese Zen Garden outside of the museum. He said he wanted to ask me a question in Japan, so he brought Japan to me, I said "YES" he said "no, I have to ask the question!" He got down on one knee and I jumped and said "YES" again! It was perfect!
