Heather and Malachi first met on social media while Heather was attending Kent State University and Malachi was living in Akron, Ohio. They met in person for the first time at a movie theater in Akron, OH.

Malachi had worked with Heather's family to make her think they were getting family pictures done. While Heather and Malachi were getting their picture taken, he got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. Malachi surprised Heather by having two of her friends hiding upstairs so they could witness the proposal.
