Things To Do

Now that we have been in Austin for a couple years, there are some recommendations we can make for fun places to check out

The Driskill

604 Brazos Street, Austin, TX 78701

This is a historic hotel and in addition to being a landmark, it also has a lovely restaurant and bar that are reasonably priced.

LBJ Presidential Library

2313 Red River Street, Austin, TX 78705

I volunteer here! This is the only presidential library in Austin, but it is 1/3 presidential libraries in Texas.

Elisabet Ney Museum

304 East 44th Street, Austin, TX 78751

This is a showcase of woman artist's collection of sculptures within her former house.

Cidercade Austin

600 East Riverside Drive, Austin, TX 78704

Arcade! Super fun, has good fun, is usually very busy.

Terry Black's Barbecue

1003 Barton Springs Road, Austin, TX 78704

Good BBQ. Lines can be long, though.

Magnolia Cafe

1920 South Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78704

One of our favorite joints for all day breakfast and anything else you might want to eat.

Covert Park at Mount Bonnell

3800 Mount Bonnell Road, Austin, TX 78731

Spectacular View of Austin over Ladybird Lake. It is a hike and is not handicap accessible unfortunately.

Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center

4801 La Crosse Avenue, Austin, TX 78739

Depending on time of year, there will be a variety of flowers on bloom and other non-seasonal plants that stay year round.

The Little Gay Shop

828 Airport Boulevard, Austin, TX 78702

Small bookstore with a focus on lgbt literature and zines. There are other small shops in this area and a really cool goodwill next door.

Crepe Crazy

3103 South Lamar Boulevard, Austin, TX 78704

This restaurant is run by entirely deaf/hoh staff. The environment is peaceful and the food is great.

Super Thai Cuisine

2024 South Lamar Boulevard, Austin, TX 78704

My favorite Thai restaurant in town. Everything is excellent. Approved by MoH as well.

Phoebe's Diner - Oltorf

533 West Oltorf Street, Austin, TX 78704

Excellent Diner for breakfast and lunch. Limited parking.

Blanton Museum of Art

200 East Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard, Austin, TX 78712

This is on the UT campus and is a walk away from the Bob Bullock Museum as well. There are parking garages nearby that are (Austin) reasonably priced.

Bullock Texas State History Museum

1800 Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78701

Next to the Blanton! Has a movie theater, cafe, and all sorts of history

Texas Capitol

1100 Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78701

Not sure about parking situation, but the building is beautiful and typically open to visitors. Weather permitting, the grounds are beautiful as well

For all the days along the way
