The Pearl is one of San Antonio's most beautiful and action packed downtown areas. Down on Grayson and Best Quality Daughter are two of our favorite restaurants, (make reservations) both very tasty and have great cocktails. There are over 2 dozen eating and drinking establishments of all types and flavors in this area, be sure to check out the lobby and bar in Hotel Emma as it is the heart of the Pearl and the historical Pearl beer brew house. In 1916 this was the largest brewery in the nation. Every Saturday from 9:00 am-1:00 pm and Sunday 10:00 am-2:00 pm a fantastic farmer's market is set up and it sells a lot more than produce! Visit and Enjoy!
The Esquire is the oldest bar in San Antonio and definitely one of the gems of the river with great food and craft cocktails. "The Esquire Tavern opened in 1933 to celebrate the end of Prohibition and has been a beloved San Antonio watering hole ever since, with a short hiatus from 2006 to 2011. The Esquire is dark, cool, redolent with history, and serves cold, cold beer, swanky cocktails, and excellent food."
These destinations are very near each other downtown and both are worth the visit. A lot of the food on the riverwalk is average, but many restaurants nearby in Southtown or the Pearl Brewery area are excellent.
Located about an hour outside San Antonio (70 miles) this hill country German town is full of shops, wineries, great history, and restaurants.
This is one of our favorite bars in San Antonio in the La Cantera Shopping Center area. This partial underground bar makes you feel like you just walked into a historic speakeasy. The drinks are handcrafted by incredible bartenders, guaranteed you will not be disappointed. Fair warning this bar does have a dress code so don't show up in athletic gear.
Remember yall you're in Texas! We wouldn't feel right without recommending some stores where you can get your country on! Tecovas is a beautiful western wear store, all their boots are beautifully handcrafted and more importantly comfortable. Their headquarters are located right down the road in Austin, Texas.
If you are wanting to invest in a pair of boots, the price tag is worth it at Lucchese. "Lucchese has had a long and storied history. Today, more than 130 years later, skilled artisans still make Lucchese products in Texas with great care."
