Dry Falls
This is a must see for everyone! If you only have time for one activity this is the one to choose. It is short and easy - about 20 to 30 minutes depending on how many photos you take:) You follow the steps down to a large beautiful waterfall. You can even walk right behind the falls without getting wet. It is 15 minutes from Skyline Lodge and 10 minutes from downtown Highlands - on Hwy 64. Saturday, you could be there by 10am, back to town by 11am for lunch and shopping, and at your hotel in time to get ready for the wedding. Enjoy!
Whiteside Mountain Trail
The absolute best, most scenic trail in the area is the popular Whiteside Mountain Trail. If weather cooperates you will see spectacular mountain views at several locations at the top. It is a moderate hike which takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete. This is a loop trail - we recommend going up the wide stone path to the left and continue on the narrow woodsy trail which will bring you back down the steeper side. Hiking shoes or tennis shoes are fine - no flip flops. Bring water and a small snack to share. It is 15 minutes away from Skyline Lodge or 20 minutes from downtown Highlands. If you are arriving on Thursday - come and join this Hike with the Bride and Groom at 9am on Friday morning. Even if you do this hike sometime over the weekend - and you should:) - still try to see Dry Falls also. Be safe and have fun!
Sports Page Sandwich Shoppe
Excellent lunch place for yummy sandwiches and great soup. Open 7:30 to 2:30. They serve breakfast from 7:30am to 10:30am and lunch from 10:30am to 2:30pm. For fastest service, arrive early for lunch.
The Ugly Dog Pub
Very popular cozy pub/restaurant with regional beers and great food. If going for lunch, we recommend arriving just before it opens at 11:30am . They serve food until 10pm and note they do not take reservations.
Sweetreats!
Sweetreats is a delectable one of a kind ice-cream store with our family favorite "Very Berry" flavor. It is always the first (and last) place we go when visiting Highlands. Seriously so excited for this!!!!
Sunday Champagne Brunch at Altitudes
Altitudes at Skyline Lodge serves a Champagne Brunch from Noon-2pm on Sunday. The brunch is popular in the Highlands area so reservations should be made in advance.
