Carson and Hannah met on their first day of freshman year August 21, 2017 in an Honors class on Terrorism. On that first day, they got into a debate over an unidentified case study, the details of which are still discussed. At the end of the course they were placed in the same group project together. Hannah was doing some extra work for the project and asked for groupmates to help twice. In both instances, Carson was the only volunteer. After the project meetings they would talk for hours, and soon they became friends outside of class. Over the remaining half of the semester, Carson attempted to ask Hannah out three times, each met with a “no”. Even through that, they remained close friends as the semester wrapped and winter break began. As Carson was at the airport to fly home for Christmas, the two were talking back and forth over text. Hannah suggested switching to Facetime while he waited for his flight. As soon as Carson answered the call, he said “Missed me already?” with a sarcastic eyebrow raised. It was at that moment that Hannah ‘caught the feels’. They spent all of winter break talking almost daily, making each of their parents suspect they were poorly hiding a boyfriend/girlfriend. When they got back to campus it took Hannah a few days to finally work up the courage and ask Carson out. Their first date was January 13th, 2018. They went to an Italian restaurant called La Sala, in Lafayette, IN. They missed the earlier showing of a movie, so to kill time they went bowling in the Purdue Union bowling alley before seeing the Greatest Showman later that night. Carson and Hannah have been dating continuously ever since, and they have endured large amounts of long distance. By the time they get married, out of their 44 months in their relationship, 24 of those months will have been spent apart, separated by a variety of distances and drive times spanning from an hour and a half to 17 hours.
