Hotel
Terre di Nano is a historic mansion located in Val d’Orcia, South of Tuscany, very close to delightful Montepulciano and Pienza. We've rented out the entire villa for 3 days (June 1st-4th, 2023) to accommodate all guests and minimize the need for additional transportation. All wedding events including Welcome Drinks, the Wedding Ceremony & Reception, along with the Send Off Pool Party will be held here at one convenient location. Check in will be Thursday (6/1) at 4pm and check out is Sunday (6/4) by 11am. We will be assigning rooms based on final RSVP list. All meals during the duration of the weekend will be covered, but feel free to bring any other food or drinks you may want during your stay!
Flight
If you're waiting to book travel, we recommend setting alerts on Google Flights for the time period you are looking to travel (we will be flying out of JFK on May 28th into Florence and flying home from Milan on June 10th). Google will send you alerts every time the price changes, and recommend when to book for the cheapest airfare. One of the closest airports to Terre di Nano is Florence, however, there are not many direct flights options from the US. Rome is a great option if you're looking for direct flights. It's about a 3 hour drive to Terre di Nano. Milan is typically the cheapest to fly in and out of internationally, but is about a 5 hour drive to our venue. However, you can take a train from Milan to Florence. We suggest breaking the trip up by stopping in different towns on your way (if you can!) Flying is an inexpensive way to get around Europe - usually ranging from $30-$100 per person. (We've seen flights from Milan to London, Paris, Madrid, Rome, Venice, etc. for as low as $15!)
Rental Car
Trains are great for getting around the northern and larger metropolitan parts of Italy, but Tuscany is more rural and many travelers find renting a car is the easiest and most enjoyable way to get around. We recently used Sixt and recommend them! Of course driving in another country can be a bit nerve racking so here is some advise: + Make sure to have a GPS - don't rely on cell service in a foreign country + Be sure to look into the process ahead of time - it's important to understand the basic rules, signs, how to pay tolls, etc. + You'll only need your US Drivers License and Passport to rent a car + When driving to the smaller towns, be sure to park outside of the cities in a car park and walk to the center given the narrow alleys + Manual transmissions are the norm. If you would prefer an automatic, remember to make specific arrangements with the rental company in advance. + Terre di Nano has free parking + You'll likely need to pick up / drop off your car in a major city, the smaller Tuscan towns will not have locations
Travel Note
If you'd prefer not to drive and would rather hire a driver (aka a Car Transfer), our Wedding Planners recommend using Italian Style. Email: info@italianstyle-srl.it Whatsapp number: +393311224433 Please note there are no taxis on demand in the Italian countryside so pre-booking is essential. In addition to car rentals, you can also book car transfers directly through Sixt by choosing the "Ride" option: https://www.sixt.com/
Train
If you are flying into Rome, you can to the train into Montepulciano (~2 hours) which is the nearest town to Terre di Nano. If you're flying into Milan, you can train to Florence (~3 hours) and from Florence to Montepulciano (~2 hours). There are two main train companies in Italy - Trenitalia and Italo. You can buy tickets either online or at the station, though we would suggest purchasing online in advance as they could be sold out by the time you arrive at the station (and can be more expensive day of). To find your train in the station just look at your ticket for a series of numbers and match it to the number on the board (note, the destination may appear different as it's the final stop). If you have a physical ticket - you MUST validate it at one of the machines on the platform before boarding (you could get fined if not). If you're using an app, you still must validate it through the app.
Travel Note
If you're looking for fun experiences in all different parts of the country, we recommend checking out Viator to help book things like Wine Tours/Tastings, Cooking Classes, Private Tours, etc. You can even use them to book things like private car services. AirBNB also offers local experiences you can check out!
