May 4, 2019 I had just taken a travel nursing assignment in El Paso. I didn't want to be in El Paso, I wanted to be in the northeast. But, I had previously had fun in El Paso, so I wasn't too upset. I convinced my new roommate Michaela that the best way to enjoy El Paso on a Saturday night was to country dance at Little Bit of Texas. So I got all dolled up, and we headed out. Now, El Paso is a military town, so that makes going dancing very fun for a single lady, because there is a large selection of dance partners. On this particular night however, I did not get one dancing offer. So I turned to Michaela to complain about our situation. As I'm talking, she decides to walk off [so now I look like a crazy person talking to myself]. She comes back with a boy for me to dance with. He took me on the floor, spun me around for a song, then left me back with Michaela- and didn't even offer to dance with her. Michaela then states "he's no good." [this is heavily edited... I can't repeat what she actually said]. To which I replied "Well I'll pick the next one." But then she walked off again. This time the man she brings back walks up to me and says "Hi, I'm Jonathan. I was told I have to ask you to dance. However, since your friend is the one who came to find me... I'm going to dance with her first." [Perfect.. right?]. When it was my turn, Jon led me to the dance floor, he shortly spun me into a country swing dancing move that I had learned while I was in Arizona... his dancing was not classic Texas 2-stepping. So I said " Hey that's a country swing move, do you know how to country swing?" He replied " you know what country swing is?" I learned he was in fact living in Phoenix, was an avid country swing dancer, and was only in El Paso for work. So.. naturally we danced the rest of the night. Flash forward a few days and after some coaxing from Michaela, Jon has met us on a Thursday for more dancing. After that night, he asked me on a date. We got coffee and played board games. Talking with him for hours was just so easy. We ended the date with this conversation: Jon: "Hey, I had a lot of fun tonight, can I see you again." Haleigh: "Yes. Tomorrow?" And we basically continued that exact conversation until the day he proposed.
