June 15, 2018. I opened up Twitter and began to scroll until I ran across Hailey's softball transfer commitment to the University of San Diego. After a few clicks, I found myself scrolling through her account and I thought she was just beautiful. I was so excited to see that she was coming to my college. I took the risk and went sliding into her DMs! After a few broad messages, I asked for her number. She gave it to me and without thinking I immediately FaceTimed her, no text, no warning, I just sent it straight on the FaceTime. It was time to get down to business and get to know her. We then went on to FaceTime fairly often for a few weeks until we finally got the opportunity to meet in San Diego as the school year began. She was very intimidating when I first met her in person, the way she carried herself so confidently made me nervous. Truth be told, I wanted to pursue a relationship instantly, however, she humbled me as she made it clear that the Friend Zone was the perfect spot for me at that time in her life. (Ouch… that one hurt). Finally after a couple months of being friends, I finally got the courage to ask her to be my girlfriend. She then replied something like “No, not until you meet my dad and my family”. Again, Shane gets burned… "How quickly can I meet her family?", I thought to myself. Three days later, we were on our way from San Diego to Rancho Cucamonga, California. The rest is history!
