Let's set the scene... it's the height of summer in Michigan in 2014. Kris and Hailey were going into their final year of college at Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan, respectfully. Hailey decided to go back on Tinder, which back then was a fairly new dating app. Spending the afternoon on a family member's boat, and after a few weeks of getting nowhere, she promised herself - that day - that if she didn't get any substantive matches, she would delete it for good. And that afternoon, I kid you not, she matched with some guy named Kris (he actually went by Topher in his profile - but she didn't let that stop her). She thought he was cute and had a nice smile, and as a plus, had an interest in sports. After some initial get to know you conversations, they spent the next week texting... pretty heavily. And then, Kris asked if she wanted to Skype (is that even still a thing?!) They set a video chat date and spent an entire Saturday talking - literally, the entire day - 8 hours! And they decided to Skype the next day as well, and they talked for 7 hours... It was an instant connection, and just felt like such a genuine friendship. After weeks of talking on and off over text and video, they decided to meet at a Detroit Tigers baseball game - as their first date! After spending the day together, Kris asked (if Hailey would be his girlfriend)... and she said yes!
