Hailey and Samuel met when Sam and his family came to Good News Baptist Church to set up their tent for VBS in the summer of 2019. We did not think much of each other then but hung out a couple of times throughout the next few years when the Henry family came to set up tent meetings.
Post-graduation, Samuel continued to travel with his family's ministry, and Hailey went to college in Pensacola, Florida. After discovering we had a mutual appreciation for Greenday we began to talk regularly. A few months of getting to know each other better followed, and somewhere between the middle of summer and mid-terms of the first semester we became exclusive. Later on, we realized we didn't make the decision on one specific day, so we chose a random day within a set timeframe and decided to run with it.
God worked in both of our hearts a year into our relationship, and our walks in life brought us only five minutes down the street from each other. Hailey realized that doing school closer to home would be a better step for her. Samuel was accepted into the Virginia Beach Fire Academy and moved in order to get settled and attend. This brought us only a few minutes apart, much different from the hours that used to separate us, and the months we would go before seeing each other. Sharing the struggles of life and supporting each other only brought us closer.
We had family and friends in town to celebrate Samuel's upcoming graduation from the Fire Academy. That night, after receiving his assignment and being sworn in as a Virginia Beach Firefighter, everyone gathered outside for pictures. When we went to do a picture of just us, Samuel turned and got on one knee. He proposed, choking up and through tears Hailey nodded yes, unable to speak. We are so excited to begin this new chapter of our lives, and are so excited to be celebrating it with you!
